Which Pilates Class is Best for Me?

I am often asked this question, by new and seasoned students, and my first answer always is: The best class for you is the class that you enjoy and that you can attend with the most consistency. That being said, here are some other thoughts on the question.

Choosing the best Pilates class depends on several factors including your fitness level, goals, preferences, and any specific needs or considerations you may have. Here are some types of Pilates classes we offer and who they might be best suited for:

  1. Mat Pilates: Best for all levels from beginner to advanced, and those who prefer a more accessible and floor-based workout. Mat Pilates focuses on exercises done on a mat using body weight for resistance. It's great for improving core strength, flexibility, and overall muscle tone. Modifications and variations will be given as needed.

2. Reformer Pilates: Best for those looking for a challenging and varied workout with added resistance. Reformer Pilates uses a specialized apparatus (the reformer) with springs and straps to provide resistance, which can help build strength, improve posture, and increase flexibility. We typically suggest either Pilates 101 or our 3 Private package before attending a group class.

3. Group Equipment Classes (e.g. Tower, Chair): Best for those who enjoy the variety and challenge of using different Pilates equipment beyond the reformer. These classes incorporate equipment like the Tower or Chair, offering diverse exercises to target different muscle groups and enhance overall fitness.

Many mat and Reformer exercises can also be executed in different ways on various apparatus.

To determine which Pilates class is best for you, consider your current fitness level, any specific goals you have (e.g., improving flexibility, strengthening core muscles), and whether you have any health concerns or limitations that might require a specialized session (like a Private Pilates Session). It can also be helpful to try out different classes or consult with an instructor who can assess your needs and recommend the most suitable class for you.
