Can Pilates Boost My Energy?
Lately I've noticed a lot of people saying they feel really tired and low on energy. I've wondered, is it the changing of the clocks back an hour and the fact that it's dark so early? Is it the stress of the holidays? Could it be the cold weather and going in and out of cold air and hot houses? I also noticed that I have been doing my own Pilates workouts later in the morning or early in the afternoon, and after I do them, I always have a burst of energy that I didn't have before I started.
So, let's look at how Pilates can boost our energy and be a great option to help address fatigue and improve our overall well-being. Here's how it might help:
Boost Energy Levels:
Pilates focuses on controlled movements and breathwork, which can enhance oxygen flow throughout your body, leaving you feeling more energized after a session.
Improves Sleep:
Pilates helps reduce stress and tension in the body, promoting relaxation. This can lead to better quality sleep, which is crucial if fatigue is linked to sleep issues.
Enhances Core Strength & Posture:
Poor posture can lead to physical fatigue because your muscles have to work harder to keep you upright. Pilates strengthens your core and promotes proper alignment, reducing strain and conserving energy.
Relieves Stress:
Stress is a common cause of fatigue. Pilates integrates mindful movement and breathing techniques, which help calm your nervous system and reduce mental and physical stress.
Encourages Gentle Movement:
Unlike high-intensity exercises, Pilates is gentle and adaptable, making it an excellent choice if you're feeling too drained for more intense workouts. Regular practice can build stamina over time.
Balances Hormones:
Physical activity like Pilates can help regulate stress hormones such as cortisol and boost mood-enhancing endorphins, which might alleviate fatigue caused by stress or low mood.
All this being said, listen to your body. If your fatigue is beyond typical, consult a healthcare provider to ensure it isn’t related to an underlying medical condition.
