BREATHING THROUGHOUT THE WORKOUT
Today during my workout, I had an "a-ha moment" about breathing. It is something that instructors tell us many times but sometimes only when the moment happens do you understand what the instructor means.
I was practicing a challenging sit up. In order to roll up, I lifted my feet and swung up to use momentum. At the top, I let out a long exhale. After the instructor pointed out the fact I was holding my breath, I tried it one more time. As I rolled up with my feet firmly planted on the mat, I exhaled completely. It was so much easier.
“Above all, learn how to breathe properly.” Breathing is an intricate part of Pilates. There are many exercises that work better with a coordinated breath rhythm. When you are working out, be conscious of how you are breathing and in what order. If you have any questions, be sure to talk with your instructor. You will find that the workout is more challenging and, at the same time, easier. Ask your instructor for some ideas of exercises to practice your breathing.
In your daily life, spend time thinking about your breath and breathing patterns. When you stand up straight, you are able to breathe completely since your lungs are able to expand more. Take a moment to check in with your body and see how you are sitting or standing.
